Religious School Principal of the TBEMC Hebrew School

Temple Beth El Mekor Chayim (TBEMC), an inclusive, dynamic, warm, egalitarian synagogue in Cranford, New Jersey, is searching for a part-time principal for its Hebrew school. The ideal candidate will have a passion for Jewish education and help us foster a multi-sensory, hands-on learning environment that is creative, innovative, and includes establishing positive working relationships with teachers, students, families, and lay leaders. We are looking for an experienced educator with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Effective collaboration skills and creativity are crucial to the position.
The principal will report directly to the Rabbi and will manage the school staff and teachers. The principal will be responsible for recruiting and hiring Religious School staff. The principal must be able to step into the classroom to cover, if needed. He/she will also keep records, manage the school-wing of the building, coordinate special programs and projects, and collaborate with the security committee and other temple committees to ensure, create, and carry out safety/security procedures for students. The principal will also attend two annual board meetings (Winter/Spring) to give an update to the synagogue’s lay leaders.
Candidates must be available for school sessions Tuesdays 4 to 6pm and Sundays 9am to 12 noon, as well as for mutually agreed upon weekly office hours. The candidate will need to be available for occasional special events on weekdays and Shabbat/holidays and will be an integral member of the synagogue community.
Experience:
A qualified individual for this position is one who has a degree in education or a related field, a strong Judaic background, and supervisory experience. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the core curricula of our congregation which focuses on: Hebrew Proficiency, a differentiated curriculum of prayer and Synagogue skills, a love of Zionism and Israel education, holidays, and a variety of units that emphasize Jewish values and ethics. Experience with working with children with special needs or experience in differentiating instruction for non-typical learners is a plus.
